No plastic!

After watching the documentary "Plastic Planet" I am rapidly reducing my use of plastic and would love to have a No platis policy, but unfortunately it is almost impossible living in this society.
It has become really evident to me, how deeply the use of plastic is ingrained in our society. Even this computer I am typing on, contains plastic. Clothes, bottles, food containers, toothbrush, bags, toys, electronics and the list goes on.
It wouldn't be any problem if it weren't for the very harmfull substances in plastic. Not only harmfull to you, but to everything around you. It takes hundreds of thousands of years for plastic to be broken down and once it breaks down, toxic substances are released. Millions of seaanimals die every year from consuming plastic. The sea is now filled with plastictrash...

Almost all plastics are derived from oil. A lot of chemicals are added for either colour, texture or use. a lot of theese chemicals leach very easily when in contact with sunlight, heat (for instance hot water) or fatty substances (food, or you touching it!). Many of theese chemicals are hormonalike substances that disturb the hormonal balance in the body a lot.
If you wish to know more about it, you can see "Plastic Planet" for free here:

My glasbottle and jar

Here's some tips to what you can do to reduce plasticuse:
  • Always bring a cottonbag with you and always decline whenever the grocery store offers to give you a plastic bag. Cottonbags last for years and years and has almost zero harm to the planet (organic ones) compaired to plastic ones
  • Buy fruit engros, in big boxes. That way you avoid every single fruit to be wrapped in plastic
  • Buy glassbottles and containes, jars, to put food and water in. I am never gonna buy a plastic bottle of water again, not with the knowledge of what it contains in that water. The chemcals also leach into your food if you contain food in plastic.
  • If female, buy a ladycup (it is made from silikone, not harmfull at all) or organic cottonpads. Normal onetimepads are made of plastic and you have a lot of plasticwaste throwing them out after use. Cottonpads are reusable after wash.
  • Look for palsticfree alternatives online. You can find several website with good alternatives. For instance: http://lifewithoutplastic.com/
